Azerion has experienced significant growth since inception. But as we grow in revenue and profitability, so does our impact on the world around us. Therefore, we feel it is our duty as a company to grow responsibly, balancing financial performance with a positive impact on our planet, our community and our people.

Our Planet

Our Planet strategy aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals 9 (Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and 13 (Climate Action). Our goals include improving energy efficiency, resource mindfulness, and monitoring our environmental impact. Key initiatives focus on reducing CO2 emissions by minimising corporate travel, encouraging remote work, optimising office energy use, enhancing recycling efforts, and promoting renewable energy with suppliers. Additionally, we aim to leverage our advertising business to drive positive environmental and socio-economic impacts, supporting Climate Action through targeted campaigns.

Examples

Responsible Media Activation

  • Strengthened partnership with Right Thing.Media to amplify ads with social and environmental messaging, doubling campaigns in 2023 compared to 2022, boosting carbon, nature, and community initiatives.
  • Collaborated with HSBC on the Wealth 2023 campaign, using responsible media to drive environmental impact. A portion of the spend supported the CO2 by TIME carbon removal initiative.
  • Partnered with IMPACT+ to offer clients environmentally friendly advertising solutions.

Driving Environmental Awareness through Gaming

  • Worked with Sovereign Nature Initiative and Forgotten Parks Foundation to create an educational virtual sanctuary in Hotel Hideaway, raising biodiversity awareness in the Congo, attracting 1.2M visitors, 2K attendees, and selling 306K digital assets.
  • Collaborated with Verse Estate and Lionel Messi on the Join the Planet initiative, using gaming and VR to promote environmental awareness.

Our community

Our objectives include empowering, motivating and taking care of those around us, creating communities that are inclusive and in which all members are supported to create a bright future for the generations to come. It includes our efforts to keep our customers and their online identities private and secure, by complying with the applicable regulatory frameworks, including GDPR and CPPA. Among other initiatives, our development and moderation process aims to ensure our content and games remain a safe and fun experience for our users and players. We also collaborate with authorities, regulators and safety groups on these topics.

Community Initiatives in 2023

  • The Italian team partnered with OIES to discuss esports regulations at the Italian parliament.
  • Launched the Safety Ambassadors program in the Metaverse, with over 6,000 participants promoting safety and responsible gaming. Improved community resources, including safety guidelines and parental support.
  • Continued collaboration with the European Commission’s initiatives, including the CEO Coalition and the Alliance to Protect Minors Online, partnering with nonprofits to enhance online safety in games.
  • Supported victims of the February 2023 earthquake in Turkey, donating €150,000 to the Red Cross. In total, raised over €250,000 for humanitarian aid, environmental conservation, and health organisations.

Our vision around Inclusion and well-being incorporates the UN Sustainable Development Goal 10 Reduced Inequalities. Our objectives include incorporating an inclusive culture that refers to measures related to work culture and atmosphere in the workplace.

Our inclusion and well-being initiatives in 2023

  • Azerion continues to sponsor Dutch professional women’s football, serving as the name partner of the Women’s Dutch League.
  • Partnered with Mattel and Barbie to support the launch of the first Down’s Syndrome Doll, redirecting campaign funds to the Down’s Syndrome Association for education and resources.
  • In the Metaverse, Azerion promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion with non-binary avatars, LGBTQ+ flags, free BLM t-shirts, and inclusive events.
  • Prioritising employee well-being, regional teams offer mental health training, wellness programs, and team-building activities. Azerion also supports charity work, such as the ‘Spelen’ event, donating to the Youth Sports Fund for children’s sports programs.
